Exploring the challenges and opportunities shaping our times
When we think about the future, we often imagine sci-fi movie scenes with futuristic cities and incredible buildings. That’s probably why it makes perfect sense that the first “Museum of the Future” has opened in a city like Dubai.
Touted as the “most beautiful building in the world,” this museum shaped like an eye with a hollowed-out middle, is intended to be the new global center for future thinking, technologies, and innovation.
In this context Domestic Data Streamers has been invited to participate in the creation of two pieces for the exhibition “Tomorrow Today”, an ever-evolving showcase of innovations that can respond to many of the environmental, cultural, social and political issues that define our time.
“Clean energy futures” provides an interactive breakdown of the strengths and limitations of renewable energy technologies, trying to open up some debates around questions such as their impact on the planet, their efficiency, and how we share responsibilities between governments and citizens in the face of the climate crisis.
“Smart daily rituals” is an interactive experience that confronts us with the domestic dystopia we are creating in our own homes. A space controlled by voice and artificial intelligence where our data and needs are constantly tracked. An installation where the most cutting-edge smart devices directly warn us of the dangers of domestic surveillance.
Unfortunately, we can’t gaze into our Magic Ball to find it out, what we do know for sure is that the questions and reflections we ask ourselves today will help us shape that future.
