Design for Human Future

A public conversation on sustainable design

We created an interactive installation in the city centre to celebrate the 18th Barcelona Design Week, and share ideas on how design choices can support sustainable development. In collaboration with Escofet we erected 17 flags, each one carrying a question that corresponds to one of the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) which act as a blueprint for peace and prosperity for people and the planet.

The questions each reflected the role of design in achieving these goals. In the face of an uncertain and volatile future, we need to recognise the key role design has to play in building a fairer, more sustainable world for everyone.

Our flags each held a QR code at their base, which passersby could scan to have their say on the questions we proposed. This way we were able to paint a picture of how our city feels about the role of design in creating a sustainable future.

All participants that completed the questions would receive a link, full of examples of projects that are setting an example when it comes to sustainable design. You can read for yourself here.
