Why are we obsessed with the future? The exhibition “The Great Imagination” at Fundación Telefónica demonstrates that human beings have always tried to answer the question of “what comes next?” and explores how narratives on the subject have changed overtime.
The show, commissioned by Jorge Camacho -expert in future design-, unleashes the transformative power of the imagination and entices the visitor to think about ‘’radically different’’ worlds, which might be more necessary now than ever.
In this context, Domestic Data Streamers have participated in the generation of two pieces that contribute to the global narrative of the exhibition.
“Accelerating” welcomes you to the showcase. An immersive sculpture that tells us about the growing interest in the idea of "future". Based on data from Google Trends, the piece displays the number of articles and news published on the platform from 2008 to today that include the term “future”. A three-dimensional exercise in data visualization that is materialized in light, sound and experience.
“Your futures” gives closure to the journey. A thought-provoking, participative piece that asks fundamental questions to the visitors. The piece uses Jim Dator’s model, which tells us that the millions of visions we have created can be grouped around four archetypes. These are: Growth, Collapse, Discipline and Transformation. “Your futures” collects visitor data and tries to answer the questions: How is the future you imagine? Can we find, today, a common pattern in the issues and concerns that are giving rise to the imagination of futures?
